Glasgow veterans Dan Monox and The Wasp are Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Three decades of rave history as part of the Scottish city’s house music scene; Dan Monox has been part of Rubadub Records since the 90’s, while The Wasp put on free parties and ran labels like Pest Control Records. Their label DABJ – named after the street their notorious afterhours party flat was located – has discovered and launched the likes of Denis Sulta, Big Miz, Fear-E, and Marquis Hawkes – alongside established acts such as Nightwave, Alex Cortez and Jared Wilson. The vinyl imprint won Dj Mag’s “Best British Breakthrough Label” in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength since.
Both Monox and The Wasp are expert selectors and technical DJs, holding down residencies at Glasgow institutions La Cheetah and Berkeley Suite. Their natural environment is late night sweaty underground venues across the UK, but the duo are not phased by bigger bookings and have played across Europe and the Middle East, plus appearances at Berghain, Trouw, and festivals like Riverside and T in the Park. Their speciality: Jacking house, techno, acid, and italo all washed down with Buckfast and Eccies.
The hardworking pair like to keep things simple when it comes to their appeal. For them, their rugged and honest approach to music and DJ-ing can be expressed by their ethos and desires to bring “real rockin’ raw shit from the streets for the clubs”.
